The conference is held under the third edition of the Multi-Annual Programme. The first one, implemented in 2005-2009, was entitled "Economic and social factors conditioning Polish food economy development after Poland EU accession". In 2011-2014, it focused on "Competitiveness of the Polish food economy in the conditions of globalization and European integration". The current programme, implemented in 2015-2019, centres around the issue of "The Polish and the EU agricultures 2020+. Challenges, chances, threats, proposals".

The Common Agricultural Policy was and still is one of the key pillars of the European integration. The CAP targets set in the Treaty and supplemented in a multiannual reform process by a wide catalogue of public goals, continue to be consistent and up-to-date. The European agricultural policy comprehensively addresses the challenges of competitiveness of the agri-food sector and innovative production, viability, and multifunctional and sustainable rural development, food security and quality as well as concern for the environmental quality and common goods.  The conference, concentrating on the achievements and experiences of the CAP that result from the application of the agricultural policy in the current programming period, and economic, environmental and social challenges and dilemmas facing the agri-food sector and rural areas in the 21st century, will significantly contribute to the discussions on the future of the CAP.  These discussions are a part of ongoing EU debates and consultations on the scope of regulation and financing of the Common Agricultural Policy post-2020.

The conference focusses on the following themes:

  1. Megatrends and the most important development challenges of the European and global food economy and rural areas.
  2. Transformations of the rural economy and programming of the rural and agricultural policy.
  3. Transfer of innovations in the sector of agriculture, food industry and rural economy.
  4. Financial and fiscal factors in the improvement of efficiency and competitiveness.
  5. Challenges and dilemmas for the EU budget and the CAP after 2020.
  6. The role of farms and agricultural enterprises in actions for sustainable development.
  7. Problems with and barriers to achieving the aims of agricultural and rural development policy.
  8. The CAP instruments and their adjustment to challenges at local, regional, European and global levels.
  9. Evolution and development perspectives for agricultural markets.

Prospective authors are invited to submit full and original research papers that have not been published or submitted for consideration elsewhere. The conference papers will be published in the reviewed book series of the Multi-Annual Programme after the conference. The official languages during the Conference are Polish and English, with simultaneous translation.

The Organizers of the Conference cover the costs of accommodation and travel from Warsaw to the place of the Conference, but only to the speakers who send abstracts and deliver presentations.
